As a responsible hub port and flag State, we seek to balance marine environment protection with the growth of our port and maritime industries.
We believe in taking a proactive approach in protecting our environment. As such, we make it a point to conduct environmental impact assessments (EIA) before commencing port development projects. For instance, prior to the development of Pasir Panjang Terminals, the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore implemented coral translocations, earth control measures, installation of silt screens and the Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan. All these were carried out with the aim of minimising any potential adverse environmental impact from the project. The result: over 40 per cent of the affected corals are thriving well today, after transplanting them to nearby artificial reefs.
