The aviation industry is unique in that it is trans-boundary – key issues like aviation safety and security do not affect just the points of origin and destination of a flight. Therefore, we need to engage the global community on a diverse range of aviation matters. We aim to do so through international fora and organisations such as the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Singapore joined the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) as a Contracting State on 20 May 1966. Since then, within the global aviation framework of ICAO and through close cooperation with ICAO Member States, Singapore has developed into a major aviation hub in the Asia Pacific, providing a comprehensive range of aviation services to the world.
Through the years, Singapore has also built up competencies and expertise in various aspects of civil aviation management. To date, we have actively participated in some 70 ICAO panels, committees, working groups and task forces to shape international standards ranging from aviation safety, aviation security, air traffic management, aviation environmental protection, aviation law, aviation medicine and airport operations. We have also served as as the Chair / core team member in some 20 of these expert groups.
