Cycling has become increasingly popular in Singapore in recent years. It is not only for recreation, but is also an alternative option for short-distance intra-town trips linking commuters from residential precincts to major transport nodes such as RTS stations, bus interchanges and local amenities.
To facilitate cycling, foldable bicycles are now allowed onboard buses and trains, and bicycle racks at key transport nodes are being improved. LTA, in partnership with various community stakeholders, will roll out a $43 million programme to design and construct dedicated cycle tracks next to pedestrian footpaths in five selected Housing Development Towns - Tampines, Yishun, Sembawang, Pasir Ris and Taman Jurong.
Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, Mr Teo Ser Luck, chairs the Cycling Facilitation Committee, which is a forum to engage the relevant agencies and stakeholders in addressing cycling-related issues.
